Burning CDs and Buying MP3s
Burning CDs and purchasing MP3s costs extra. If you want to burn a track onto a CD you have to purchase the MP3. These MP3 are yours to keep, even if you cancel your Rhapsody subscription.
Subscription tracks
A Rhapsody subscription track is music content, much like an MP3. However, you don't own these tracks, but you can listen as much as you want whenever you want and even download them to listen to offline to compatible devices. If you cancel your subscription, these tracks expire and will be unplayable.

Some people don't seem to understand how streaming music services work. It's just like say netflix, your paying £15 a month for unlimited streaming, if you want to keep it you have to buy the song.
-
-
Then tell me how i can down load the music for free to my music library on my computer
-
First, there are two kinds of downloading:
* Downloading where you keep the file, can burn it to CD, make your own ringtone, etc. This requires individual purchasing of tracks or albums, separate from any Rhapsody subscription.
* Downloading where the intent is to listen to the track without needing to bring it down again over the network, such as when you have no network connection available (like on an airplane). This requires a Rhapsody subscription, and these files stop being playable if you discontinue your subscription.
So neither of these are *free*, but the "download for offline listening" type is included in your subscription. The "download to keep" type is not. -

can i download the music from here and put it into my computers music file to keep forever/\?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled

Only by purchasing individual tracks and albums. That is a separate charge from your monthly subscription.
Your monthly subscription includes the ability to download copies of tracks intended for listening to when you don't have a good internet connection. Those tracks are tied to your subscription, and they only work so long as you keep your subscription. They cannot be burned to CD. -

I-tunes is $99 per track to purchase. If I pay 14 dollars a month to rhapsody can I download as many songs as I want, and own them for that price? It seems awful cheap. For that price I could sit up all night and download thousands of songs and then be done with all on line music stores.
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Do I have to pay per title if I want to download a song?.-
yes, exactly, that's why a subscription doesn't work that way. You have access to all music as long as you subscribe, but if you stop subscribing, those tracks will expire.

Do i have unlimited downloads
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
How many tracks can i download with my 10 dollars a month.-
Yes and no. You can download as many tracks as will fit on your device, but they are "downloads for offline listening", encoded with DRM and they expire if your subscription lapses.
To obtain tracks you can keep forever, you have to buy them separately (just like you would with iTunes -- go to http://mp3.rhapsody.com ). Purchased tracks are not included with your subscription. -

I'm new to rhapsody, I'm in my free trial, ad its asking me to buy each track, they are free right? I just don't want a 200.00 bill when this month is over. Thanks for your input!!
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
New to Rhapsody.-
What action are you doing that it is asking you to buy each track? The only things which should trigger that are a command to buy tracks, or a command to burn tracks to a CD (which requires that you own the tracks).

Sign in at http://www.rhapsody.com/myaccount and see what it says your account type is. If you are seeing indicators that you have a "25 tracks a month" account, it is likely that your subscription has expired (such as because the expiration date passed on your credit card).

I just subscribed to Rhapsody, so right now I'm on the free trial...and I'm using it on my iPod Touch so if I click on download for the songs I want, will it cost more than the $10 i have to pay monthly? Also, if I cancel my membership, will I still be able to keep the songs I downloaded during my free trial/ subscription?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Does it cost extra to download songs WITH subscription?.-
No, it won't cost more. Downloading the way you described it is included in the subscription.
The songs you downloaded will stop working if you stop your subscription to Rhapsody or do not continue past the trial. -

I'm not finding a clear answer to my question, so here it is:
Can I download songs from Rhapsody & do with them what i want? I may want to burn them to cd's, or transfer them to different devices (iphone/laptop/desktop/girlfriends droid)
If so, how much does this cost? is it on addition to the subscription? are the files MP3? thanks!

You can purchase songs in MP3 format from mp3.rhapsody.com. This does not require a subscription, and you can do with them what you want.
Primarily, Rhapsody is a subscription music service, and it requires a subscription. Depending upon the subscription, you can listen to songs on a PC, on a mobile phone (with the relevant app installed), on home audio devices.
You don't own the music but can listen to any of the available 14 million tracks all you want. The PC, iPhone, and Android apps allow you to download the music for offline listening. You can also transfer subscription tracks to MP3 players.
Subscription music is protected so that when you stop subscribing, the music can no longer be played. Therefore, you cannot burn subscription songs to CDs, transfer to devices like USB drives, etc. Streaming of subscription content is limited to one device at any given time, and you can download to a maximum of one or three devices depending upon the subscription plan. -

Ok im sorry in advance if I should not post this here but im confused as I was a napster to go customer and am now using the updated application provided by Rhapsody. As a napster to go customer I paid £14.95 a month and downloaded unlimited drm protected music despite to popular belief that the plan was canceled a while back, mine was active until the 26th of march. I am still paying that amount although when I look on the subscription plans none of them come up to that amount and whilst im paying extra I am getting nothing extra. A lot of music that was available with napster is no longer available. I understand that Rhapsody has bought napster to compete with spotify but I find myself wanting to go to spotify because they have a similar/more selection of music than what my service does now since it has been taken over by Rhapsody.
-
Some content may not be available immediate. This is a re-launch and we're putting everything on a newer platform that everything was previously on, which is more stable and faster.
Because it's a new platform we needed to put all songs onto new platform some music may not be there immediately; however, we are bringing in tens of thousands of tracks each day. So there's a chance the music you're looking for will show up some day soon.
Additionally, the Napster 5.0 software allows you to download tracks for offline playback, just press the down-triangle on a track/album you want to download and select Download Track/Album.

We have a new subscription and plan on paying 9.99 a month going forward. Will we be able to create/burn CD's to listen to on our home CD player with the 9.99 plan? Or do we need to buy songs individually to create a CD ?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Burning a CD.-
If you're in the UK then no you can't burn a CD because the option to buy songs has been removed.
If you're in the US, at present you can still purchase songs (and then of course burn them to CD). -

I started the free trail a few days ago and just wants some info .. so if i get Rhapsody I can download to PC or devices all I want for free? why don't I get to keep my music that I payed for after I disable my subscription? scenario: if i pay ten dollars a month for four months (40 dolloars) and i only get, say, 15 songs, on itunes that might only be 15-30 dollars, a dollar 40 somthing cents per song, yet i payed more for rhabsody and if i choose to unsubscribe i dont keep my songs that i payed so much for!
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
its not fair.-
We're a subscription service. Similar to Netflix or a cable provider - you pay a monthly subscription fee for access to that service, and if you decide to cancel your subscription, you lose access to that service.
If you want to keep the content, you can buy it. You don't need an active subscription to purchase music from Rhapsody. -

i just downloaded rhapsody...im confused i guess...its ten dollars a month then you have to pay for each song you want to download?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
confused i guess.-
It's really quite simple...
You can rent or you can buy. If you rent then just like a video rental store you get access to the content but it's not yours - you're borrowing it.
If you really like something then you can choose to buy it - at which point it becomes yours.
Same as renting vs buying a car, or renting vs buying a house etc. etc. -

if you are on a $10 a month plan do you still have to pay for tracks to download

can I download songs from rhapsody providing that I have the premium package deal?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
If I have the premium package I can download songs permanently?.-
You can download songs for offline listening in a mobile app or the Windows desktop client, yes. These are DRM-encoded files tied to your subscription, though; they are not *purchased* tracks, able to be burned to CD, imported into iTunes, etc. Doing those actions requires a specific purchase, separate from your subscription.
(I equate it to leasing a car: you get to drive a car for the duration of the lease, but at the end, you either turn the car in or you then pay another fee to keep it permanently.) -
-

-
so i can put songs on my mp3 player jus wit the subscription fee i dont have to buy the song right? and if i cancel my membership will they still play on mp3? and do you have good dubstep selction exp. a dubstep song wit no artist
-
If you cancel, they will stop playing once the license expires, which is usually 30 days from the last sign-in to validate your membership.

My family just wants do download their music to the desktop to they can burn a CD copy for their vehicle
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Is there anyway to burn Rhapsody music to a disk?.-
To burn tracks to CD, you will need to buy them individually. "Downloads" in Rhapsody are intended for offline listening, not CD burning, and are still tied to your account and will stop playing if your subscription lapses.
Check to see if your car has a headphone or AUX input to the stereo system or even a Bluetooth connection. These will allow you to use the Rhapsody mobile app on a smartphone or to play from a portable music players like from Sansa or Philips. -

I downloaded some music using the Rhapsody program. The files are on my hard drive, but they won't play. I can stream the same songs from within the Rhapsody program without issue, but these are different from the downloaded ones that won't play. There were not any restrictions, such as "for sale only" on the album.

Sure - here are a few songs this has happened to me with: Leave the Pieces by the Wreckers, Truck Yeah by Tim McGraw, Chasing the Sun by the Wanted, Here I Am by UB40, the entire Funky Divas album by En Vogue...these are just a few.
I should also specify I'm downloading them in .rax format because I usually play them in Windows Media Player (although I've been using Rhapsody because I thought Windows Media might be the problem). If I download them in .wma, windows only lets me play about 25 of them before it yells at me about DRM and makes me restart my computer.
I did test Chasing the Sun as a .wma download and it WILL play in both Rhapsody and Windows Media Player, so the problem appears to be with the .rax file. Hopefully that helps! -
-
RAX format has been deprecated. The only reason it is still available in the app is to support legacy Sansa e200R devices.
We also don't support downloading tracks in Rhapsody and playing them in other software. When it works for you, great. When it doesn't, try using the Rhapsody app. -

I just got a rhapsody subscription and installed it on my computer. When I try to drag a song to my contected MP3 player it keeps asking me to buy the song. I thought I didn't have to, I thought I could put unlimited music on my MP3 because I have a subscription.
Is this false?? -

Hi Sumney, you will get a prompt to purchase, if the device is not compatible with Rhapsody or the device is not configured. So please go to http://www.rhapsody.com/what-is-rhaps... and check the compatibility. Please let us know the name and model of your device, if it is compatible with Rhapsody. We will let you know how to configure the device.

I've configured a sansa 2 GB clib thing. It's tiny and black, not like the newest generation but the one before that one. That works great! :)
What I CAN'T figure out is my mini SD card... 2 GB really isn't enough so I got a mini SD card for 30 GB when I had an iphone I (EASILY/quickly) filled up 32 GB of space...
SO then I tried putting the mini SD thing into my sansa MP3 player but my rhapsody window doesn't seem to be acknowledging the extra space. I don't know what to do about this!-
You should see two nodes when the SD card is present, one for the Sansa device and one for the card. You would need to transfer to storage you want.
If you do not see two nodes, you may not have it seated in the device correctly, or you may need to format the card before Rhapsody can use it (especially if you previously used it for other purposes). -

If I have the 'Premier' account do I still have to pay to download music. That seems to defeat the purpose of paying a monthly fee. If I have to pay for the songs I'll get them from somewhere I don't have to pay monthly as well =(
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
What do I have to pay for?.-
The monthly fee allows you to listen to our full catalog at any time, as long as your subscription is active. If you choose to cancel your subscription, those tracks (including downloaded subscription tracks) would become unplayable.
If you purchase an MP3 from us, you can play that track regardless of whether or not your subscription is active. You can also burn that purchased track to an audio cd, or transfer it to an unsupported MP3 player. -
-
Laura, just to add to what David K said, "download" in a monthly fee subscription means that you can actually download that music to your PC, compatible MP3 players, and the iphone/ipad/itouch/android/Win7 phones, for listening without being connected to the internet. And if you do this type of "downloading", you DO NOT pay anything extra above and beyond the monthly fee.
You don't own the downloaded music, meaning that if you stop subscribing, the downloaded music will stop working. also, you cannot burn a CD with that music.
Just like David K said, if you want to keep the music if you stop subscribing, or if you want to burn to a CD, you don't even need to have a monthly fee or subscription for that. You can simply buy it from the rhapsody mp3 store or by using the PC software.
FYI, all music subscription services work this way. Rhapsody is just the most flexible and broad in my opinion. -

I started the free subscription, why am I not able to download music for free?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
free trial.-
What system are you on? Rhapsody.com, for example, does not have a download function, but mobile device apps and the Windows desktop client do.
Note that "downloading" means downloading a protected local copy to be used for listening to offline, so you can play without needing to access an internet connection. It does not mean free MP3s that you can burn to CD or move from system to system. -
-

The web app (rhapsody.com) does not allow for downloading for offline playback at this time.

No if your mp3 player is compatible with Rhapsody subscriptions. At a minimum, the player would have to support WMA files with DRM ((e x. Wma secured, protected, PLayForSure, etc, any one of those). It also needs to support a USB connection mode called MTP. But if it supports wma with drm, it most likely has MTP.
What player do you have? -

I have 2 iphones 1 for work and 1 for myself. If I purchase the subscription can I listen on both devices? The only reason I haven't bought it yet is because it says it is limited to only one mobile device I have pandora right now and I can listen to that on both. Understanding I am only paying half the price through pandora and really only getting half the service but at least they have the service I want.

Now this is interesting...my comment started with "More correctly again..." because the comment before mine, which was from a Rhapsody employee, started with "More correctly...". Now that comment has been deleted.
Going back to Rachel's comments, I think if I were her and I didn't want to pay more than $10/month, I'd get the single device Rhapsody plan, decide which phone is my primary, and utilize Rhapsody on that device while putting free Pandora on the secondary. $.02 -
-
mgibb: You don't lose downloads by logging out, only by logging in to another account on the same device. And Rachel doesn't even need to log out, just launch and use the other device, OK the "change authorization" alert, and she will be fine; there may not be any logout occurring in that situation.
