Rhapsody stops playing mid song on Android

I have an android device (MyTouch4G). When using Rhapsody, it will stop playing a song before the song is over. I have to press the play button again - but this starts the song over.

I have been unable to play a complete song for several weeks now.

Any ideas? By the way, my 4G connectivity is good.

I am having the same issue on Verizon Droid X. My situation is a bit different though - I am playing songs I've downloaded, and it stops within 10 seconds after going into another app. To start again, I have to open Rhapsody and press Play, and it restarts the same song.

Same thing, kind of - I've got a DroidX - songs just stop playing & then rhapsody starts again where it left off, but it's like a second or two of downtime before song starts again, argh .

Why is this question being 'ignored'? I have an Android version 2.3.5 and premium membership. I have downloaded playlists for when I am offline. It will play a song, then half a song, then full song or two then half a song or two. These songs play fine and full length non-stop over and over on a PC but not on my Phone. My phone is a Motorola Electrify.

    Any information?

When I am playing songs that I have already downloaded to my phone, the last part of a song randomly becomes silent. It continues to play but it does not produce any sound. Sometimes the sound quality drops before this happens but not always.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and deleted all of my music and re-downloaded it. The problem is still there.

Rhapsody, your service is no longer in compliance with what you advertize. Fix this problem now.

I called customer service about this and talked to a call center in India. It was very hard to explain this problem due to the language barrier. They told me that this is a known issue and that I should rest assured that they are working on fixing the problem. They then gave me 7 days free. I don't know how to check if I got that credit or not. I don't want 7 days of free if the service is failing.

    Hi everyone,

I know there are a lot of different playback issues being discussed in this thread. We are currently working to overhaul our playback engine, which will help solve some of these issues.

Downloaded tracks stop playback or don't play during the last few seconds.

This should not be happening. If you have downloaded tracks, they should play without error. It's possible that during the download process a particular download got screwed up or corrupted, but this should be pretty rare.

If you are having problems with downloaded tracks, please let me know the following:

    1. Device you are using, plus the OS
    2. Rhapsody version you are using
    3. Are you playing the downloaded tracks online or offline
    4. Does this happen to all tracks all the time?
    5. Does this only happen on specific tracks? If so, what are the tracks?
    6. Does the problem go away if you delete the download and then re-download the tracks?

    Stream tracks pausing during playback.

This can happen if we don't get the song downloaded enough before playback catches up to it. For example, we start the caching of the track, then we begin playback. You hit a spot that has pretty poor service, so the caching is taking longer and the playback catched up to it. Since we don't have the rest of the track, we will pause until we have enough to start playback again. This usually will only happen for a song or two before you hit a better cell area. This should not be happening on every track you play.

If you are experiencing this on every track, please let me know the following:

    1) Device you are using, plus the OS
    2) Rhapsody version you are using
    3) Does this happen on all tracks?
    4) Does this happen on your data service and on wifi?

Once I get a bit more info, we can continue on with the troubleshooting.

    Thanks,

    Cindy
    • Hi Cindy:

I am experiencing the same issue with my Android Rhapsody App, all my tracks from my Library or Playlist stop playing midway through the song, when I click back into the app the song restarts. My device is a Droid Bionic, OS- Google, Network Verizon Wireless. The Rhapsody version I am using is 2.2.4.48. This happens on my data service, I don't use wifi to listen to my music.
    • Hi Cindy,

      I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 with Android 4.0.4.
      Rhapsody 3.2.0.139.
This seems to be happening with both downloaded and streaming tracks. I go away from the app for a short time while playing music (It hasn't happened while in the app itself). Sometimes the phone is in screen-off mode and sometimes I'm in another app.

This has only been happening on wifi but I haven't yet been using Rhapsody on mobile data.

It seems to be quite sporadic so the RAM theory is plausible.

I have the problem where DOWNLOADED tracks regularly stop playing part way through the song, skipping to the next song. This happens with streaming tracks as well, but more often than not I play downloaded tracks.

This happens with no rhyme or reason, with no consistency whatsoever. Sometimes, I can play an entire album without any skips, sometimes it seems to skip at some point during nearly every single song on that very same album. Deleting and redownloading the tracks does not seem to help, but as stated previously, a given track will sometimes play all the way through and sometimes it will skip, and where in the song it skips is random as well (sometimes near the beginning, sometimes in the middle or near the end).

To summarize, I am using a Motorola Atrix 4G (AT&T if that matters), Android version 2.3.6, Rhapsody Software version 2.2.4.21. This problem, however, is NOT restricted to this version of Rhapsody, as it has been occurring with every Rhapsody version I have used on this phone (at least the past 3 to 5 updates). This same behavior occurs with downloaded and streaming songs, both over the AT&T network and on WiFi. It seems to happen with every song, though not consistently. I typically play these tracks while online, I cannot say for sure whether playing them in offline mode will result in any different behavior, but I can try this and find out.

    • Cindy,

Yes, this is the original Atrix, not the Atrix 2. To further expand on a question from yesterday, all day today I have been playing in offline mode, to see if I could further narrow down problem. Unfortunately this problem still occurs, even when Rhapsody is in offline mode.

I would absolutely be willing to put a logging build on the phone and capture logs if that would be of any assistance. I would very much like to help get to the bottom of this problem and hopefully see it resolved.

      Thank you.

      -Dan
    • One further clarification...unlike Jeremiah Vocke, in the post below, my problem is not that the track falls silent yet continues to play. My problem is the track will completely stop playing part way through the song and immediately skip to the next song.

    Cindy:
This happens sporadically. It is not always the same tracks that do this and if the same track does it, it will fall silent at a different time in the song. Sometimes they play for the duration of the track but are silent, sometimes it skips to the next track.
This happens both on 3G (t-mobile) and wifi.

I have not had it happen when in "offline" mode but I don't normally use that mode. I might if it eliminates this problem.

    I have a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant Model SGH-T959
    Firmware version 2.2
    Build Number FROYO.UVKB5
    Rhapsody Version 2.2.2.383

    Hey Rhapsody!

I've been researching this issue all morning and it looks like variants of Rhapsody stopping when dropped to the background have been going on for over a year! There are issues with songs skipping to the next song, playing silently the last few seconds of songs, terminating when going to the background, switching to offline mode, etc.

What gives? You would think that being able to play music without issues would be Rhapsody's forte and not the source of its problems. All other music apps I've seen don't have this problem.

I use Rhapsody almost exclusively on my PC and pay the yearly fee for unlimited music and love it. I also have a Philips GoGear device that syncs with Rhapsody and it is flawless (and 1/5 the price of iPod's).

But when I got my 4G LTE Verizon phone, I figured I had the ultimate device for listening to Rhapsody while away from my PC. But I'm experiencing the same issue every other Android user seems to have. My frustration is through the roof on this.

Why can't you guys get this fixed?!? I don't want to switch away from Rhapsody but the support for the Android app has been abysmal.

    PLEASE GET THIS FIXED!!!

Same with my Samsung Charge. It's as though "other process activity" causes it to stop playing.

    Hi, Rhapsody.

I am streaming via broadband wifi, both at work and at home, with the 'phone in a stationary spot at both locations. It doesn't appear to be happening with 3G, but only wifi. (Could be wrong. Time will tell.)

Can't recall what the all of the tunes were, but the problem is quite consistent and repeatable (for me). Here's one that will consistently play for a bit before moving (at variable timeline locations) to the next song. (Wish I had a different example!):

    - Album: John Denver's Greatest Hits
    - Song : For Baby (For Bobbie)

Here are my system particulars, etc:

    A. Motorola Electrify, Android Version 2.3.5
    B. Rhapsody Version 2.2.4.48
    C. Does not happen on all tracks
    D. Streaming (not downloaded)
    E. HQ or not
    F. "Stream Caching" turned on or not
    G. NO similar problem with other apps

Please help us, guys/gals. I am at the beginning of my two-week trial, and how this is handled will surely have some bearing upon whether or not my ears will let me continue with you. :-) Yes, all plays well via Windows, but I'm looking at Rhapsody primarily for my Android (without draining all of my bandwidth via 3G).

Please let me know if I can help.

    -John

I'm not sure what has changed recently but I seem to be suffering from the same issue.

    Atrix 1

Just a moment ago, i cleared out the queue. And added a playlist to play for streaming into the queue.

After maybe 30 seconds into second song the program crashes and stops.

As a side note, I have noticed it started after I upgraded my account for multiple devices.

This is not an Android specific issue as I have this along with MANY other issues on my 4g Ipod Touch. I have found that on tracks that go silent but continue to play if you pause them then play them the sound comes and the song has continued to play. I have had song downloaded on the Ipod and played them many and out of the blue it just happens and will always happen at the same point in the song untill that song is removed and re-downloaded. As if something corrupted the file.

The songs that sit at 0:0 and do not play will not ever play and MUST be removed and re-downloaded to play.

These are not new issues as i have been having them since the first day I got my new Ipod and installed the app. It never used to happen on my old cheepo Sandisk MP3 player.

    Device:
    Ipod Touch 4g
running the latest version of IOS and Rhapsody and I usually have 2.6-2.8 gig of space.

I have an HTC EVO. As the other users suggested, this is a Rhapsody problem. It is unique to Rhapsody, and occurs under all user settings.

It seems to occur in my car under the following conditions: (1) Rhapsody is operating in the background; (2) The HTC's GPS is on; (3) the car is braking or turning a corner.

Perhaps Rhapsody has an internal setting linked to the HTC's inertia sensor.

I've decided that my Samsung Charge is exhibiting this because of Android's memory management. The Charge is very short on RAM, so if Rhapsody isn't in the foreground, I suspect that it gets killed to recover its RAM usage.
