Stop playing XMas songs when it is no longer appropriate

This has been a problem for years and it's a stupid one. It is so incredibly annoying to be listening to a jazz radio station and have a random Christmas song play in the middle of Summer, or anytime that isn't near Christmas. WTF? How hard can it be to filter out songs with Christmas tags when it's not December? If the Christmas songs don't have Christmas tags then the solution is pretty obvious. Time to fix this annoying problem that never happens on Pandora.

  • Hi Parke, please reply us with the name of the jazz radio station where the Christmas song play randomly?

I believe this will turn out to be a more general problem, rather than a specific station, but to answer your question, the station I was playing today when it happened was one I created (My Channel), and it was made up of the following artists:
    George Shearing
    Stan Getz
    Dave Brubeck
    Paul Desmond

I have had a subscription for many years, and this problem has existed for as long as I can remember.

  • Hi Parke, Custom stations you create will play music by your selected artists, plus artists in the same genres,
My Rhapsody Channel is a radio station that Rhapsody creates for you based on your favorite artists and genres. This is a Dynamic station--it will constantly be updated as you listen to more music and rate more artists, albums and tracks. My Rhapsody Channel will usually be made up from:

Four artists from your recent listening history.
Three of your top rated artists.
Three key artists from the genres you select in My Rhapsody.

I don't understand why you are explaining that. The problem is the custom station is selecting Christmas songs when it shouldn't, which is anytime other than the end of November through the beginning of January. Please defect this so that it will get in the developer queue. Thanks.

  • Hi Parke, you can try deleting the custom channel and create it again.

This has happened with other custom stations I've created and the Jazz Nightclub (non-custom) station as well. If you search the community, you will see that I am not the first to mention this problem. It's a defect. Please roll this up to the devs.

Wow. I've never seen anyone this irritated and annoyed over Christmas music. I know SO many people who listen to Christmas music in the dead of summer. We get it. You don't care for Christmas music. But it sounds like when you create your own channel on Rhapsody, it's a bit like Pandora in that it searches for other songs SIMILAR to the songs and artists you've based your channel on. Is it not possible for you to just skip the song and go to the next? I mean, really. Pick your battles, Man.

    What a ridiculous gripe. Scrooge.

I'm confused. Do you actually work at Real? If not, who asked you? If you do, then this constitutes the absolute worst, most lazy, response to a bug I have ever encountered. After having been a subscriber for 8 years, I expect more. Since you mentioned Pandora, it's worth also mentioning that Pandora does not have this problem. I can listen for hours to the stations created around the same artists and not have the same problem. If they can do it, so can Rhapsody.

If you like Christmas music, fine. I don't, "man."

    What a ridiculous response. Moron.

    sad I’m disgusted.
Why confused? Because I too said something you didn't want to hear? Brian clearly explained to you how this could possibly be happening, yet you didn't want to hear it. You think, because you have been a paying customer, they should bend over backwards for you. Rhapsody owes you nothing other than what they've disclosed they will offer. Who asked me? As a matter of fact, YOU did. Where did you post your question? Drop the 'greater than thou' attitude. No one is forcing you to subscribe to Rhapsody or force you to listen to it either. If you are the type of person who needs to hear the words, "This does happen. We are/are not working on it."... there. I said it for Brian. But to tell him to 'roll it up to the devs'? Wow. How dismissive of you. And how is it that I'm a Moron? What EXACTLY did I say that renders me moronic??

What you don't know from this thread is that Real support has since acknowledged this to be a defect through a direct email exchange. It was obvious to me it was a defect the first time the problem occurred. How? Because I work in the software industry and have for 20 years, as a programmer, a senior quality assurance engineer, and quality assurance manager. I'm not just someone randomly responding to threads they don't like. I know something about software development and defects. Really. It became obvious during this exchange that Brian wasn't seeing the issue, so I made it as clear as I could. And to make things clear to you, software developers don't fix bugs as a favor to users, they fix them because they care about the quality of their product. They care about all bugs, whether they be simple typos or system crashes, and they need them in their queue so that they know about them. Barring direct access to their bug database, this is the forum to report problems. Brian knew what roll it up to the devs meant, and if he had a problem with it, he would have made it known.

Calling me scrooge for my lack of fondness of Christmas music in July aside, I called you a moron for responding to something you know nothing about. Your response indicated a clear lack of concern for or understanding of software quality, a subject I do know something about. Further, your response seems to be driven solely by what you consider to be my bad attitude for being frustrated with something that has been an issue for years. If that attitude appears better than thou, maybe in this case, it is. If you really want to keep this thread going, then let's continue with what you do for a living and how that's relevant to reporting software quality issues or randomly commenting on those reports.

Oooohh look at how important and smart and in charge you are with all of those big words and titles. Give me a break. It doesn't matter on the internet. Or better said, I don't give a crap. You post something in a community - you run the risk of THE COMMUNITY commenting on it. Like it or not. Didn't like my comment? DON'T READ IT!

And as for what I do for a living... I suppose being an EMT-P isn't good enough for you. Does it have anything to do with reporting software quality issues? Probably not. Does it speak to my exposure on how to treat the public versus your 20+ years staring at a computer screen, interacting with a mouse? Probably.

You could have reported it with such a different tone, yet instead you chose not to and I find that so telling.

You don't like that YOU are being criticized. Yeah. Hard drives don't tend to talk back, do they. I'm finished with this thread that you so boldly challenged me to continue. Go fix a bug. I'm off to save another life.

Being an EMT is a noble profession, but has absolutely nothing to do with software quality, and I'm sure I would be just as out of bounds responding to a thread in which you had an issue with something EMT related. Glad you're done because this exchange was ridiculous.

    sad I’m Nauseeous.
I am an EMT-P. First I was an EMT-B. Then, I became an EMT-I. I am now an EMT- P. Oh wait, let me write it all out so it looks more hoity toity for your liking. I am now an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic.

I've already spoken to the relevancy of my vocation to the topic of this COMMUNITY POSTED question. Your reiteration was useless. It does NOT MATTER who I am, what I do or how much money I make. YOU chose to post your original question in a COMMUNITY set forum, therefore I have EVERY right to respond!

Your deflection of my observances and lack of comment can only speak to their authenticity.

Tell me all about your 20+ years of FACE time you've had with people. Go on. Tell me alllllll about it. Better yet, people in CRISIS. People in pain. People with their brain matter EXPOSED yet still conscious. How would you deal with them as human beings. As someone's family.

Your people skills are incredibly lacking.

I really don't understand what any of this has to do with the reported issue. You claim I was being dismissive of Bryan's response, and that is because I knew as first tier support, he was being dismissive of me, offering a canned response without first researching the issue. If he had, he would have realized I was right. I don't blame Bryan; he was just doing his job, but I needed to get my point passed him. Why that should interest an EMT is beyond me. This is a public forum, but Real only offers this method of reporting problems to their support. It's not intended as a means of reporting software issues to EMT personnel. Your initiating this and then continuing this back and forth nonsense does not at all demonstrate your people skills. So much for being done with this so you can save another life.
