There is a rhapsaody basic service available for $5/month.
The only way I ofund to sign up for this was to cancel my $10/month subscription and then I was offered the $5/month one.
Maybe you could advertise the $5/month one somewhere, and people might sign up for it...

Hi Joseph, I'll forward this information to our Product Team for clarification. Thanks!

its all about money. alot of people only use the streaming feature. then rhapsody would only get 5 dollors from them a month instead of ten. offering it when people are quitting is like giving them a special deal to stay around.
-
-
But it really does no good to offer it when quitting, because there's no place to find what the Basic option includes, so who's going to sign up for "Basic" with no explanation of what "Basic" is, unless one happens to come to this forum during the cancellation process.
-
-
Like me for instance... NO WAY am I spending $14.00/month on this.
I might go for $5.00 per week but what is the difference between Basic, and the others. For all I know you can listen while on your computer, and that's it. NO DOWNLOAD, Mp3 or otherwise.
What is needed is a table showing all features available, and compairing them program to program.
I put it down to unethical basic dishonesty. Thus you cannot trust this seller.- view 3 more comments

@paulsherwood3, you are comparing apples and oranges. Please understand that Pandora is a RADIO service. You listen to what PANDORA decides you should listen to at that point in time. Rhapsody, whether basic, premier, or premier plus allows you to select and play the songs you want whenever you want. Completely different.
So it's a great deal. -

Fern - it makes sense if all you want is music streaming for your SONOS and you don't want to overpay for it!

Rhapsody stinks, even though this $5 plan is nice, the credits for permanent downloads are gone. Went from $5/month for Napster including 5 free downloads, to $5-10/month without downloads, and one measly app device. Going to cancel this thing once the 50% off is done in 3 months or the $-credits they gave me are gone (whichever comes first)... iTunes wins.

@mike - check out my "Loyal Napster customers feeling Rapsodied" thread under "Problems."
I also started another thread under "Questions" outlining the Rhapsody Basic plan that I was able to pry (with much difficultly) out of their Customer (dis)Service department. -

I got an email asking me to come back to Rhapsody and advertised a new $4.99 a month Rhapsody Basic plan. However, when I follow the link and log in I get "Unfortunately, the membership plan you selected is not available for your account at this time." Why ask me to use this and then tell me it's unavailable to me?
I miss Napster so much, I can't believe they got replaced by a company like this. How did $5 a month unlimited streaming and 5 MP3 downloads ever loose out to $10 a month for just streaming?

Rhapsody Basic "not available for your account"?. -

This appears to be a completely deceptive practice to keep people in the dark about a $4.99 plan when they can keep them on a plan for twice that amount. I had no idea this plan existed, because, as you can see, Rhapsody does't publicize it unless they are at risk of losing a customer. The only way I even heard about it is because I came to these forums to complain that they had been overcharging me for over two years for the 9.99 plan by hitting my credit card each month for 12.99. Shame on me for not knowing I was actually on the premier plan and not something more that whole time - but they sure knew! And Rhapsody's fix for that?.....future service credits equal to a fraction of what I overpaid. What a lousy way to treat their costumers. The word needs to get out about this $4.99 plan.

Oh my fault fern- I thought you were an employee, or at least a representative of theirs given the number of times I've seen your comments on this forum! For as positive as you are about Rhapsody you should be getting some compensation from them.

Ha! You would think and hope, but no, I'm a customer like many others. There are a few of us who have been around since rhapsody's inception or close to it, and we all try to help each other out.
There are many things I like about Rhapsody, and I have my own pet peeves as well with Rhapsody. But, overall, I really enjoy the concept and the service. I think the subscription model is still in its infancy, and all services are struggling on how to actually make money....from what I've read and understand, Rhapsody is still the only one now that is no longer relying on capital infusion or venture capital, they claim they have created a sustainable business model through subscriptions and partnerships.
I really hope the concept survives. There is no perfect service, I've trialed serveral, but Rhapsody has served me very well over the many years.
I don't have Sonos system unfortunately, (jealous!), but I have Logitech Squeezeboxes, and I absolutely love how it all works. One day I'll be able to jump to a Sonos.
Cheers, and I hope you get your basic plan issue resolved. -

Once again I've gotten the email telling me about the $4.99 plan asking me to come back to Rhapsody and once again when I try to use it I get "Unfortunately, the membership plan you selected is not available for your account at this time." What's so special about my account that I can't use the plans they're emailing to me? More importantly, why doesn't Rhapsody want my money??

No idea Emerjev- they take lots of others money... Even charge some customers more than their highest plan price for years! Their streaming service is great - just too bad their customer service and business practices are so unethical.

I opened Rhapsody, then Clicked on My Account in the menu at the top of the panel, then clicked on Manage My Account, then Account Summary, then EDIT Account Status. I was then offered the 4.99 Basic Plan, which I selected. Billing History showed that my selection of the Basic Plan had been accepted. NOTE: I did not first cancel my account. Also, read the features of the Basic Plan carefully the FIRST TIME, because you will not have another chance. In fact, I wanted to double check the features, so I tried changing to Premier in the expectation of seeing the terms of the Basic Plan a second time. But i was never offered the Basic Plan after that first time. REPEAT: Read the terms of the Basic Plan the FIRST TIME you see the plan offered.
P.S. I contacted Customer Support at first to ask what the Basic Plan consisted of. I was given a very general answer that effectively told me nothing.-
The Basic Plan is exactly that: Basic.
It only allows streaming through the Rhapsody PC Software or Rhapsody website. No downloading for offline listening, no portable devices support, no home audio devices, TVs, etc.
Other than that, I don't know that there is any other difference. -
